About Us

The NSW Ageing and Disability Commission is an independent agency of the NSW government, established 1 July 2019.

Our role is to better protect older people and adults with disability from abuse, neglect and exploitation in their family, home and community.

The ADC fills a critical gap that was not previously addressed by other complaint and investigative bodies in NSW. We work closely with other government and non-government organisations to support information sharing and referral pathways in order to ensure any older person or adult with disability is protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The purpose of the NSW Ageing and Disability Commission is to:

  • raise community awareness to reduce and prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation of older people and adults with disability
  • receive and respond to reports or allegations of abuse, neglect and exploitation of an older person or adult with disability
  • provide support and information to those at need
  • run an investigation (if required)
  • report and advise the government on related systemic issues.

Our role does not investigate the conduct of paid service providers for older people or adults with disability. Instead, we focus on the conduct of the person’s family and other informal supports, or members known to them from the community.

Your role

As the Ageing and Disability Commissioner, you will be responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction for the Ageing and Disability Commission (ADC).

As a statutory officer appointed by the Governor of NSW under the Ageing and Disability Commissioner Act 2019, you will be responsible for ensuring the agency’s vision and strategic direction ensures the delivery of its legislative responsibility – to promote the rights of and safeguard adults with a disability and older people from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

What you’ll do

You will lead a diverse team, leading and driving the delivery of strategies and reforms that strengthen the Government’s commitment to better protect adults with disability and older people from abuse, neglect and exploitation in their family, home and community.

You will also:

  • Drive strategic business planning and decision making to ensure the efficacy or service delivery in line with legislative requirements.
  • Build and maintain key relationships to ensure the government’s commitments are delivered on in a coordinated, efficient, and timely way, with consideration to competing political, budgetary, and other interests and priorities.
  • Deliver advice and recommendations to the government on issues relevant to the abuse, neglect or exploitation of adults with disability and older persons to inform policy development.
  • Direct the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and business plans that foster a culture of continuous improvement and improve service delivery across the agency.
  • Manage resources, processes, functions, and staff to ensure the delivery of quality outcomes for adults with a disability and older people.
  • Lead investigations into allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of awareness-building campaigns to educate the community about how to identify, respond to, and prevent the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults with a disability and older people.
  • Develop the ADC as a high performing and effective organisation.

What we’re looking for

  • Passion and interest in promoting the rights of adults with a disability and older people, and safeguarding them from abuse, neglect and exploitation in their family, home and community.
  • Proven experience in leading an agency or large business unit at an executive level, delivering quality services in a complex client environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and sensitive issues in a dynamic business environment with competing priorities.
